Besides potable water shutoff valves and gaseous detectors in DWV stacks,  home networks may bring added control to features that previously required manual effort.  Plant watering systems could interface with weather services and only water plants when little or no rain is forecast for the local area.  Other applications may be added to a home network along with instruction modules to teach the new capability to the network.
