Industry Description

Most comprehensive security panels have an assortment of both intrusion and fire options.  These are passive systems that only go to an alarm status when an event — break-in, motion past a sensor, heat rise, smoke, or fire — causes the panel to react.

Home networks may be able to add additional capabilities to home security.  If entry into the home is through the front door and the home network knows that almost everyone uses the back door, the network could greet the person and ask about the use of the front door.  Additional information (voice identification, nonsensical answers to questions, digital video analysis) might causes the system to report a silent alarm with special instructions about a hostage situation.
