Industry Description

Home networks may be capable of property protection for the home and for family members.   Global positioning satellite (GPS) technology makes many applications practical.  An example is the laptop computer that always checks its location when it boots up; if it isn’t where is should be, the stealth application contacts authorities and tells them exactly where it is — good for recovery of stolen property, bad for the crooks.

Other kinds of protection are possible with advanced technology and home networks may make their applications practical.  Consider the use of security fob technology.  Computers, televisions, home entertainment centers may all be manufactured with a built-in circuit that periodically receives a randomized code sequence, transmitted via the home’s Wi-Fi network from the home network.

If these items are stolen, there is no way for the security code to be received.  These electronic devices become paper weights!  When recovered, the devices can be positively identified by instructing your home network to transmit the appropriate code sequence to the Wi-Fi network of the apprehending police agency.  When the code is received, the units turn themselves on.
