In the future, home networks may be able to control specialized devices and provide added benefits for the home and its occupants.  Specially modified uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) might provide low voltages for direct use by digital circuits, minimizing normal efficiency losses found in traditional designs.  Wind and solar systems may be better controlled by intelligent home networks that are aware of atmospheric conditions outside the home, specific needs of family members inside the home, and ways to adjust system output and performance for maximum usefulness.
