In the future, home network systems may be designed to encourage upgrading older systems rather than replacing everything.  Components may be designed to allow retrofitting — replacing sections using older technology with more advanced versions.  This protects the home network investment, encourages higher quality manufacturing  standards, and widespread use of modularization concepts.  Retrofit and upgrade centers may just be an extension of electronic and appliance retailers.  These stores may also have repair departments that offer systems troubleshooting, re-certification, and compliance evaluation services.
