Category Description

In the future – as in the present – everything in this world may require fixing.  Equipment failures, unexpected systems crashes, that big branch that punched a hole in the roof — there will always be a need to plan for contingencies.

This means every aspect of every home network, both physical and virtual, requires ways to fix what fails and successfully recover from the failure.  Many industries today employ “fail safe” concepts.

This approach to systems and equipment implies that when a failure occurs, the system or device will fail to a position or physical state that poses the least danger to people and equipment.  For situations where this is not possible, such as repairs to electrically powered equipment, “Lock Out – Tag Out” protocols have been developed to protect every worker and the equipment until all repairs have been completed.

In the future, complex home networks will probably use a similar strategy to protect family members, the home, and the home network itself until all repairs have been verified as being done.
