Effective home networks are revealed through product development research.  These studies attempt to understand how well the machines bring positive benefits to people in their encounters with technology.

The evolution of technology in the home will always be a function of human needs and product availability.  An aspect of sociological studies will look at ways that life in the home is changing, how roles of family members are evolving, and ways that these changes are being affected by home network products.  In the future, there may be research studies and popular discussions about individual products, new systems capabilities, and experiments to enhance home network system performance.

Whereas Sociology studies the influences and forces in the lives of people, this topic studies the “man-machine” interaction from the machine perspective.  Products and home network systems will be studied and their influence evaluated with respect to family functionality, ethics, parental-familial interactions and other cultural changes (sociology).  The effectiveness of home networks either enhances (reduces) or hinders (enlarges) the “digital divide” concept.  If problems exist, will further development of home network products make situations better?
